Welcome to our latest newsletter; hopefully we have now seen the back of the treacherous snowy conditions and we can start to enjoy a bit of normality in our home and working lives. Throughout the cold snap it has been business as usual for us, business is certainly easier now than it was for much of January with dangerous driving conditions and many of our customers struggling to get staff into work.
This month we have the happy feeling of Valentine’s and the onset of Spring; new beginnings, which is why this issue focuses on asking you to think about the way your office operates and the products it uses, whether it be considering Fairtrade goods, participating in Green Office Week, considering biodegradable products or just taking a good old fashioned product like the lever arch file and taking a look at developments that could make your filing so much easier.

Swap your usual stuff, for Fairtrade stuff

For this year's Fairtrade Fortnight (22-February – 7 March) Fairtrade is asking the nation to join The Big Swap. For two whole weeks they will be asking you to swap your usual stuff for Fairtrade stuff. Your usual bananas for Fairtrade bananas, your usual cotton socks for Fairtrade cotton socks, and your usual cuppa for a Fairtrade cuppa. This means that every time you go shopping, you can use your wallet to make a stand.
Over the past 12-18 months we have noticed a definite swap to Fairtrade when it comes to ordering tea, coffee, sugar, hot chocolate and biscuits for the office; if you have not yet made the swap, contact us (link to email address) today.
You can find out more about the Big Swap, including a video, by visiting the Fairtrade website, a hub for all your swapping needs. It tells you how to get involved, what you can swap and most importantly, how to register them. Every swap will be proof that the people of the UK want producers in the developing world to get a fairer deal.

The environment continues to be a hot topic in the office supplies industry, much of it is often brushed aside as “greenwashing” (the practice of companies disingenuously spinning their products and policies as environmentally friendly) there are suppliers within our business making very real efforts to raise the awareness of making your office greener. One such supplier is Avery who are launching Green Office Week, which takes place from 26th to 30th April.
The aim of the week is to encourage you to be more environmentally friendly in the workplace. From recycling to choosing green products, there are many environmental issues to consider.
As part of Green Office Week 2010 Avery needs YOU to help spread the word about key environmental issues such as recycling, pollution and green products. We need you to encourage your company to think and act green. You can raise your profile at work and enhance your company’s eco-policy by becoming a Green Office Week Ambassador. It’s a fantastic opportunity for you to make a difference in your workplace and help the environment. For more information about Green Office Week and how you can get involved click here.

Snopake Bio2 is a complete range of durable filing products that will completely biodegrade when disposed of. This is Snopake's third sustainable filing range designed to reduce impact on the environment and safeguard natural resources for the next generation, and to support this exciting new product range they have launched a fun website. Which gives you more detail about the product, a chance to claim a free sample and also some useful tips for a greener office.
For example, did you know that if left on, a mobile phone charger continues to draw almost as much energy as it does when charging? By leaving your charger switched on, you will generate 35-70 kg of avoidable CO2 each year. It is estimated that 95% of the energy used by mobile phone chargers in the UK is wasted energy. Alternatively, paint your office with lighter, gloss paint to reflect daylight - you will reduce your requirement for overhead lighting and it’s a great excuse for an office makeover! If you tend to think that one lever arch file is the same as another, then you probably have not yet experienced the Leitz 180° mechanism. Once you have used these Lever Arch Files you will begin to wonder why every file is not designed this way. What’s the benefit we hear you ask? Well, when we tell you we can guarantee you’ll go “Ahhh, that’s so simple, so brilliant...so obvious!”. You see, opening the mechanism 180° - 50% wider than standard versions - you can file so much quicker and from both sides when open...it’s a little difficult to explain, which is why they have posted a short video on You Tube.
Such is the quality of the Leitz brand these files come with a FIVE YEAR GUARANTEE; now that is confidence in a product. However, if you are not yet convinced that is worth paying a little extra for the quality, how about we throw in a FREE £10 Amazon voucher with every pack purchased between now and the end of March? Contact us today for more details.
